🌐 VPN Self Service – User Guide

Welcome to the PortX VPN Self Service! This tool helps you easily create and manage VPN connections for securely connecting your network to AWS.

Whether you're setting up your first VPN or making changes to an existing one, this guide walks you through each part of the experience.

🛍 How to Access the VPN Modal

To start managing your VPNs:

  1. Go to the VPN section at Manage module: Integration Manager > Manage > Links.
  2. You'll see the VPN Provisioning card, click on Open button.
  3. A modal will pop up titled “VPN” – this is the VPN Modal, where everything happens.

📁 Tabs Overview: What You Can Do

Inside the VPN Modal, there are up to three tabs you'll interact with:

  1. Provision – Create or update your VPN.
  2. Status Provisioning – Track VPN setup progress.
  3. Status – View details of active VPNs and download configurations.

You may not always see all tabs at once; they appear based on where you are in the setup process.

🚀 Creating a New VPN

To create your VPN:

  1. Open the VPN modal and go to the Provision tab.
  2. Fill in your connection information:
    • Your public IP address
    • Network details (like your internal network range and ASN)
    • Remote gateway information
    • A secure Pre-Shared Key (PSK) – You’ll use this on your network device later.
  3. You can also choose to enable a DR VPN (Disaster Recovery VPN) for backup connectivity. If you do, you’ll need to provide the same kind of details for your DR site.
  4. After filling in all required fields, click Submit.

After submission, you’ll see the Status Provisioning tab, where you can track your VPN being created.

⌛ Checking VPN Provisioning Status

In the Status Provisioning tab:

  • You’ll see a card for each VPN being set up.
  • Each card shows:
    • The state of the connection (e.g., creating, available)
    • The state of the gateways involved
  • This section automatically updates while your VPN is being prepared.

Once the VPN is ready, you’ll be taken to the Status tab.

📦 Viewing VPN Details & Downloading Config File

In the Status tab:

  • You’ll find cards showing each VPN’s:
    • Connection ID
    • Current state
    • Tunnel IP addresses and their status
  • If your VPN is ready, you’ll see a VPN Config File section.

To download your config:

  1. Choose your edge device platform (e.g., Cisco, Fortinet).
  2. Select the IKE version (usually ikev1 or ikev2 – use the one supported by your router).
  3. Click Download to get the file (vpn-config.txt).
  4. Use this file to configure your network router.

🧹 Making Changes or Removing DR VPN

If you already have a VPN and want to make updates:

  • Go to the Provision tab.
  • Update your values or enable/disable the DR VPN option.
  • Submit the changes.
  • You’ll again be taken to the Status Provisioning tab to monitor the changes.

Removing the DR VPN is done by unchecking the DR VPN option and submitting.
